LILIAN SEWE

MASTERS STUDENT

Before joining VRF101, I had struggled with my research journey for several years. I kept shifting from one idea to another without making any real progress, and I lacked the confidence and motivation to even get started. When I first heard about VRF101, I felt a sense of hope, like help was finally within reach. Becoming part of this vibrant community of research experts and passionate learners gave me the direction I had been longing for. In moments when I felt lost, I held onto the assurance found in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope” (NIV). These words became more meaningful as I began to see a path forming through the support I received.

Today, I am proud to say that I have a clear research topic and I’m actively working on my proposal. Though I’m still progressing, the transformation has been incredible, moving from a place of near-giving up to confidently defending my ideas before a panel of academicians. VRF101 has restored my confidence and strengthened my belief that I can complete my master’s degree. With the guidance of our dedicated patron, Dr. Simon Obwatho, and the encouragement from fellow students, I now envision a future where I pursue my PhD, God willing. I often reflect on Paulo Freire’s powerful words: “Education does not change the world. Education changes people. People change the world” (Freire, 1970). This journey has changed me, and that is already changing my world.

JOYCE MONGINA

I am a PhD scholar at Kenyatta University, Department of Educational Management, Policy and Curriculum Studies, Area of Specialisation: Educational Management.

I have found the Vibrant Research Forum (VRF101) to be a transformative space in my academic journey. The consistent encouragement, expert insights, and collaborative discussions have sharpened my thinking, particularly in shaping my thesis concept and proposal. Engaging with scholars from across the continent and beyond has enriched my perspective and strengthened my confidence in navigating complex research processes.

I am sincerely grateful to the VRF101 family and leadership for creating a platform that not only supports but inspires. This forum is truly a beacon for emerging researchers.

Joining Vibrant Research Forum One Zero One was an absolute game changer for my academic journey. Despite the intensity of my role at a busy financial institution, this forum provided the exact motivation and structured challenge I needed to truly ‘press on.’ The regular Zoom meetings, insightful presentations, and collaborative forum discussions were instrumental. They didn’t just inspire me; they equipped me with practical strategies and a renewed focus, enabling me to successfully complete my research proposal, a milestone I once found incredibly daunting amidst my professional commitments.

I often describe Vibrant Research Forum One Zero One as a ‘researcher’s clinic,’ and I mean that in the most supportive sense. It’s a unique space where if you arrive feeling ‘sick’ with your research perhaps stuck, overwhelmed, or lacking direction you are expertly ‘diagnosed,’ provided with targeted ‘treatment’ through mentorship and peer support, and ultimately ‘healed’ as you make tangible progress. And for those already on a healthy track, the forum acts as a vital ‘check-up,’ offering continuous engagement and critical feedback to maintain momentum and ensure the highest quality in our academic pursuits. It’s truly an ecosystem of growth and well-being for researchers.
